Warning: Connection Lost

By Ruby Johnson

Technology works like glue

Sticking to everything including you

You have this connection but somehow you’re lost

Soon you’ll find that there is a cost

Your life is split in two

Comparison kills more than a few

Your life being spent online

Is not a life lived just fine

Everyday you throw your time away

To social media it slips down the drain

One day you’ll see it doesn’t pay

For at the end of the road there is only pain

But there is another way

You don’t have to throw your time away

Find a balance between real and fake

Know just how many selfies to take

Learn to shut off your phone

So you don’t live your life alone

Every post you make online

Creates a steady decline

Of the life you live in real time

And surely it is not a crime

But you will soon realize

Happiness is the real prize

A way to keep your life your own

To live a life outside your phone

Be yourself wherever you are

And never forget you are a star

You only ever post your best

And you hide and suppress the rest

Others seem better than you

Because they do it too

Be careful when you compare

Because everyone filters what they share

Be the one who is yourself

And don’t worry about everyone else

Compare yourself to no one

And you’ll have more fun

Technology has gone too far

And can make you forget who you are

You are human without your phone

Otherwise you might as well be a clone

Have the power to get offline

If you really want to be genuine

Be yourself everywhere

If you really do care

Technology has gone too far

So never lose track of who you are
